Introduction of the New USB-C
The USB-C introduced this year, is the new connector and cable which can power the MacBook and can accept a wide variety of devices with adapters. As the trend has moved towards much lighter and thinner platform designs, it is not surprising that the USB-C is not much larger than the previous micro-USB. The great thing about the USB-C connecter is that it is symmetrical and reversible unlike the older versions. Now you don’t have to worry about which side of the USB-C needs to be plugged in!
This is the USB 3.1 technology as it is much improved and is twice as fast as the USB 3.0. The USB-C connector can only fit into a USB-C port but the USB-C cable is compatible with the older standards. Hence, you will find that it can support DisplayPort, power, HDMI, VGA as well as being compatible with the older versions of USB, but you are going to need an adaptor in order to plug it in. This is one of the downsides as until this advanced technology becomes as widely used as the regular USB 2.0 ports, adapters will be needed for connections.
The new Apple MacBook has been introduced with this single USB-C port as its only source of connection. This new laptop is as thin as 13.5mm which slims down to 3.5mm, and this extreme slimmed-down version was only possible with the new USB-C connector. As the older USB ports were larger in size, this sleeker version of MacBook would not have been possible without this innovation. It has proved to be powerful enough to replace the laptops charging port and the USB standard has said to support up to 100W power. Keeping all this in mind, it won’t be surprising if USB-C replaces MagSafe 2, Lightening and any other Apple adapter there is out there.
The USB-C connector and cable is not limited to the new MacBook only though. This device can be used with the Google Chromebook Pixel which has been introduced, as it also has two USB-C ports along with the older USB 3.0 connections. It can also be used on other smartphones and tablets, with the use of adapters. Hence, we can see that its acceptance has not been limited to Apple products like before, which is what makes it so great and even more widely popular.
Therefore, for now the new adapters will have to be purchased but as it is the next generation of connectors and cables, its usefulness and adaptability will soon come into place. The new MacBook users might find it to be a little pricey as they will have to buy these adapters separately but the promise this new USB-C brings about, makes it a worthwhile innovation. The connectivity, power and the future expectations we have from this product, certainly grabbed our attention and we are sure it will grab yours too!
