The cost of processors is falling all the time. Often it’s possible to give your computer a massive performance boost simply by upgrading the processor. Generally speaking, a processor can be upgraded to a related- but faster- model in the same family without having to replace the motherboard. This is often a good choice if your computer’s still relatively new.
Sometimes it’s necessary to replace the motherboard as well, but given that today’s budget PSUs and motherboards are often more powerful than yesterday’s midrange ones, you’d be surprised how affordable- and sensible- an option this can be!
