Kingston SSD Drives- Up to 10x Faster than HDD
It wasn’t always this way- until a few years ago, SSD drives were very expensive and used mainly by rich people and performance obsessives. In recent years they’ve been tumbling in price at a rate of knots, and these Kingston SSDNow SSD drives are a regular feature on the shelf of our Dundee store.
Byte-for-byte they’re still not as cheap as hard drives. However, this is really a case of “pretty cheap” vs. “ridiculously cheap”! Many people nowadays don’t need all the space that a large hard drive provides, and those that do can still enjoy the massive benefits by using the SSD as their boot (C:) drive and using the hard drive for mass storage.
At the time of writing, our current selection includes Kingston SSDNow drives in 120 GB, 240 GB, 480 GB and 960 GB sizes. (Yes, that last one is almost a terabyte!) These are 2.5″ (laptop) sized- as are most SSDs- and can be used with desktop machines too. (We also sell drive bay adaptors to convert 3.5″ bays for 2.5″ drives). They’re up to 10x faster than typical 7200 RPM 3.5″ hard drives, and support SATA 3 (up to 6 Gb/s). They include a three year warranty.
As SSD prices are constantly falling (and capacities growing), expect this selection to be updated on a regular basis.
