Erratic Computer? It Might Be Your Power Supply
Power supplies (PSU) aren’t too exciting on their own, but a well-functioning PSU is essential to your system’s reliability.
Sometimes they fail altogether, and your computer just won’t start up. At other times they might start giving out more slowly, leading to unreliable and unpredictable performance from your computer.
We frequently get tower and desktop PCs coming into our Dundee store showing erratic or unreliable behavour. While it’s not always obvious to the owners, a little diagnosis from our technicians often reveals the problem to be a malfunctioning, ageing or just poorly-designed power supply.

Upgraded your PC? Check your PSU
Another reason for replacing the PSU on desktop and tower PCs is when the old one’s not up to the job. This often happens when the computer is upgraded with (e.g.) a more demanding graphics card- sometimes this takes the computer’s power needs over the current PSU’s rating… sometimes it just exposes the fact that many dirt-cheap power supplies can’t reliably deliver anything like the wattage claimed on the box!
