A Typical S8 Plus Screen Repair

This is a replacement screen repair we carried out on a Samsung Galaxy S8+. The S8+ (or S8 Plus) came out earlier this year, along with its smaller sibling, the Samsung Galaxy S8.

As you can see in the photos, the original screen was flickering badly, with the intended contents of the display virtually illegible. We took the back off using a specialist tool, then replaced the screen and other components using the contents of the official Samsung Galaxy S8+ service pack.

Once this had been done, the phone was up and running again, as good as new.

We Use the Official Samsung Service Packs

Complete Units Ensure More Reliable Fitting

The official service pack that we use includes a genuine AMOLED replacement display and comes complete with the frame, which increases the reliability of the repair. This contrasts with using unofficially-refurbished AMOLED displays without the frame. Having to fit the frame separately can result in artifacts- such as pink lines- appearing on the display. Don’t Hold Your Breath for Cheap Compatibles

At the time of writing, unofficial “copy” screens- designed and manufactured from scratch by independent companies- aren’t yet available for the S8 and S8 Plus. Although you can buy them for older Galaxy S models, we’d found those ones to be unreliable with poor display quality. These copy screens are also based on mediocre-quality LCDs rather than the AMOLED technology of the originals. Among other problems, they’re noticeably less vibrant and on some you can’t even change the brightness. As with “copy” iPhone screens, we feel it’s unlikely that S8/S8+ copy displays will be anywhere close to the quality of the originals even when they do arrive.

Official Pack for Best Results- and Get It Fitted Straight Away

In short, we consider the official Service Pack to be the best option for these reasons. Yes, the price is higher than using unofficial refurbs, but we buy in bulk to minimise the cost– this in turn lets us pass on the cheapest possible price for our S8 and S8 Plus screen repairs to our customers. In addition, it means that we typically have the S8 and S8+ AMOLEDs in stock, ready for immediate fitting (subject to existing job queue).

Samsung Replace Your Battery Whether You Like It Or Not

We can’t deny having a vested interest here(!), but we do believe that we provide a reliable service at a good price. While there is also the option of taking it to Samsung themselves, they’ll generally replace the LCD and battery, since they won’t remove the customer’s battery from the housing. This adds unnecessarily to the cost, whereas we transfer those working parts to keep the price down.

Ask Questions If It’s Really Cheap

We have to acknowledge that other repair stores do exist, and that many of them are perfectly reputable. However, bear in mind that if you’re being offered a significantly cheaper price on the display it might be too good to be true. There exists a grey market for stolen handsets, where they are stripped for parts that are in turn used in repairs. Since AMOLED displays from legitimate sources generally go for around the same price- and are never cheap- and since profit margins on repairs can only be pushed so far, we’d definitely question anything significantly below everyone else’s prices.
