Here at Disc Depot, we keep a lot of equipment suitable for building a small to medium sized home or office network.

This TP-Link network switch is typical of what we have available. Unlike a router, it doesn’t let you actively manage the network or apparently do anything much- all you have to do is make sure it’s powered up and connect things to it. It’s basically “glue” for your network, letting you (for example) join more than one network cable to a single socket on your router, or connect multiple computers together. Its most common use is for extending an existing network.

TP-Link themselves are a brand that offers a good compromise of value and quality, and they’ve become quite well known in the past few years. This 5-port switch is a typical example of their products.
