Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1″ Digitizer Replacement Process

Welcome to another behind-the-scenes look at a Disc Depot Dundee repair! This week we’re showing you the replacement of a broken digitizer on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablet. (This is the 10.1″ model, number GT-P5110).

The owner of this tablet is fortunate because the digitizer (the touch-sensitive glass panel) is not bonded to the LCD display itself, which means that we don’t have to replace the unbroken screen as well.

As always, we don’t show every detail for reasons of privacy or our secret tricks-of-the-trade, but this shows the main steps of the process. Just don’t expect it to be this straightforward if you tried this yourself- our technician has years of experience and knows what (and what not) to do to avoid problems and inadvertent damage.

The digitizer glass has now been removed, although the old adhesive tape remains around the screen. The new digitizer is at the top of the picture. You can see the screen itself is fine.

Done! After running our usual comprehensive diagnostic checks to ensure the tablet is in full working order, it's ready to be returned to the customer.
