iPad Air – Digitizer Replacement Process

To show you what’s involved in having your computer, tablet or smartphone repaired, we’ve decided to put some jobs online, starting with this iPad Air being fixed in our Union Street store in Dundee city centre.

These photos were all taken while our technician carried out the actual repair on his workbench. We’ve included the important stages here (albeit without giving away all our clever repair secrets and techniques!)

If these photos make the repair look straightforward, that’s a testament to the skill and experience of our technician. He’s been doing this for a long time now, knows how to take an iPad apart without causing further damage, and the pitfalls of repairing one. For example, even with a common job like this, it’s incredibly easy to accidentally damage tiny components and ribbon cables if you don’t know what you’re doing when removing the final pieces of digitizer glass.

For full details of our iPad and tablet repair services, see our tablet repair services page.

Removal of the digitizer glass. Generally speaking, it isn't possible to remove this from the iPad without further breaking.

Removal of the glass. The secret is to make sure that nothing else gets damaged while this is done!

With the digitizer glass now off, you can see the LCD display itself is still in perfect condition, so it won't need replaced. We retrieve the home button for reinstallation later on.

Cleaning the LCD. This is important- we don't want to spot any marks on the glass *after* the digitizer has been glued back on.
