iPhone 6 Botched Repair Recovery

A significant proportion of the more “interesting”(!) repairs we get in are those handed to us by other stores. This is because most of them are jobs that they can’t manage by themselves- i.e. the more difficult ones! On top of which is the fact that they- or other people- have often already messed things up further in a failed attempt to repair it.

This is a typical example. We took a look at this iPhone 6 for another local business. They hadn’t attempted to repair it themselves, but someone else had had a go, and really hadn’t done a good job at all.

Duty of Care- Cheaper is Not Always Better

A few months back, we came across a story where a customer had taken their iPhone 6S to get its cracked screen replaced. Unfortunately, she hadn’t come to us, but instead went to another local store that shall remain nameless(!)

The customer and store disagree on minor details, but it seems clear that while the phone was originally supposed to have been fixed, it turned out that it wasn’t- and the shop were unable to fix it themselves.

What You Have to Know About the iPhone 7 Home Button

Changes

When Apple released the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, they made quite a few changes to the internal design of the home button. This doesn’t affect users under normal circumstances, but there are a few things you need to know if it gets damaged or needs repair.

To cut a long story short, it appears that the changes have been made solely to make repair of iPhones by independent companies (including ourselves) more difficult. (Click here if you want to skip the details). These changes include:-

Horizon & Apple’s “Right to Repair”- Don’t Believe the Hype

Horizon Emerges from the Shadows

Those in the iPhone and iPad repair industry will know that Apple has revealed details about its “Horizon” repair machine. This has been around for a while, but until recently Apple has been very secretive about it, and little information was available on the Internet.

Why Apple’s Apparent Sop to the “Right to Repair” Movement is Hollow

Recently Apple has been coming under pressure from independent repair stores in the US because attempts are being made there to pass new laws allowing the right to repair a device. At present, some would argue that you don’t truly “own” the devices you buy due to restrictions on what you can do with it and legal agreements that intentionally fudge the issue of ownership to companies’ advantage.

Why You Should Always Bring It to Us First

Introduction

It’s common sense that going for the cheapest repair store isn’t likely to get the most time or expertise spent on your smartphone or tablet. (For similar reasons, the same applies to “no fix, no fee” businesses).

However, you might be tempted to give our rivals a chance anyway. After all, if they fail, you still have the option of bringing it to us… right?

Unfortunately, this doesn’t account for the fact that an incompetent repair can turn something that might have been fixable in more skilled hands into a complete write-off, regardless of how good the next technician is.

Why Should I Care About “Copy” iPhone Screens?

You might not have thought about this before, but did you know there are different types of replacement screens for your iPhone? One contains an original LCD manufactured for Apple (which has been refurbished by a third-party company), and the other is a compatible- but almost always inferior- “copy” screen.

Many people assume they’re getting an original, or are even misled into thinking this is the case by some disreputable retailers, but this isn’t always the case.

Our latest article covers everything you need to know about original vs. “copy” iPhone replacement screens.

Since the Apple iPhone 6S and Apple iPhone 6S superseded the original iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in late 2015, we’ve had people asking if they could repair them. iPhone 6 Screen Assembly Replacement Process

You can see that this iPhone has a broken screen, which occurred when the customer dropped their phone. (Glass can also be smashed in this way when the iPhone is hit against a hard surface).
