Be Quiet! Power Supplies

Power supplies are great at supplying the juice your computer needs- especially if it’s a more demanding system, such as one used for gaming.

Unfortunately, they can also be noisy little beasts thanks to the fans required to keep them cool. If you’ve ever been annoyed by this aspect of your PC, or you’re building a new one and you want it to be quieter, you should take a look at the “Be Quiet!” range. It’s probably obvious from the name that their peripherals are designed to minimise noise, and this extends to their ATX PSUs.

At the time of writing, we stock four different “Be Quiet!” power supplies in our Dundee store. These are the 400W, 500W and 600W versions of the “System Power 8”, plus the 700W “Pure Power 10”. The Pure Power in particular is a nice model featuring cable management (i.e. you don’t have the cables you don’t need cluttering up the inside of your computer). All four have 120cm fans. These are better than the 80cm ones found in cheaper supplies- since they’re larger, they don’t need to go around as fast, so don’t make as much noise.

None of the four are cheap, but unlike some generic ATX PSUs, you know that the “Be Quiet!” models will deliver what they’re supposed to– essential when you need the power that’s being claimed. They also won’t sound like a jet taking off, which is a big plus point for those of you running demanding systems.
