Case Study: Hard Drive Data Recovery

Introduction

It’s always easiest to explain and demonstrate the issues involved in data recovery by looking at a real-life example of our work. Here, you’ll see what’s involved in a typical case, how we differ from typical “guy in bedroom/small shop” data recovery services, why we charge a little more than them- and why we’re more than worth it!

This particular case started with a customer bringing a faulty external hard drive to us. The problem was very simple- the drive wasn’t being detected by the OS (in this case, Windows) at all and the data was important to the customer.

Introduction of the New USB-C

usbc

The USB-C introduced this year, is the new connector and cable which can power the MacBook and can accept a wide variety of devices with adapters. As the trend has moved towards much lighter and thinner platform designs, it is not surprising that the USB-C is not much larger than the previous micro-USB. PlayStation 3 RSX Chip YLOD Reflow

This PS3 has a “COK-002” motherboard, which shows that it’s one of the early versions of the PS3.

Apple MacBook Pro A1286 Graphics Chip Replacement

Hi again!

This week’s look behind the scenes of a Disc Depot repair is the repair of a faulty AMD/ATI graphics chip (model: 216-0809000) on an Apple MacBook Pro (A1286 15″ 2011 version).

As you can see on the first photograph, this MacBook Pro isn’t showing anything on the screen- it’s totally blank. As usually happens with problems due to the chip itself, we replace the 2011 version of the chip with a newer upgraded- and fixed- 2013 replacement version of the same chip.
